Subtract diagonally (always subtracting the smaller number from the larger number) to find the parts of each ingredient on the right-hand corners. 4. Sum the parts to find the total parts, then divide each corner's parts by the total to determine the inclusion percentage.

Limitations of the Pearson Square
While highly practical, the Pearson Square method has significant limitations when formulating commercial feeds:
- Single Nutrient Restriction: The Pearson Square can only balance one nutrient (like protein) at a time. It cannot simultaneously balance amino acids (Lysine/Methionine), calcium, phosphorus, or energy levels.
- Ignores Feed Cost: It does not incorporate least-cost calculations, meaning it will formulate the ratio regardless of whether the ingredients are priced economically.
