The Lohmann Brown is a highly efficient brown egg laying hybrid hen. Recognized for its excellent shell strength, egg weight consistency, and persistency of lay, it requires precise calcium budgeting to maintain production peak and bone health.
Egg Yield & Laying Cycle Curves
Lohmann Brown hens reach 50% lay rate around 20-21 weeks of age, peaking at 94-96% lay rate. Under optimal management, a hen produces 320 to 330 eggs over a 72-week laying cycle, with an average egg weight of 63-65g. Cumulative feed conversion is balanced at 2.1 to 2.2 kg of feed per dozen eggs laid.
Calcium Balance & Medullary Bone Reserves
Egg shell calcification occurs in the uterus over a 20-hour period, consuming ~2.5g of calcium per egg. Layer diets must contain 3.8% to 4.5% Calcium (balanced with phosphorus at a 12:1 ratio) to support this. If dietary calcium is deficient, hens mobilize calcium reserves from their medullary bones, leading to cage layer fatigue (osteoporosis) and shell quality decay.
